Additional Packing Tips
Weather Considerations
China's climate varies greatly by region. Check the weather for your specific destinations and pack accordingly. Layers are always a good choice.
Luggage Guidelines
Most domestic airlines allow 20kg for checked luggage. Pack light as you'll likely buy souvenirs. Use packing cubes to stay organized.
Medication Tips
Bring prescriptions in original containers with doctor's note. Carry essential meds in your carry-on. Know generic names as brands differ.
⚡ Power Bank Regulations
Power banks must be CCC-certified and rated under 100Wh for domestic flights in China. They will be checked at airport security and sometimes even at subway stations.
- • Look for the CCC (中国强制认证) mark on your power bank
- • Non-certified power banks will be confiscated at airports
- • Buy locally in China — cheap and guaranteed compliant (¥30-60)
- • You can also rent power banks from street stations in major cities
💧 Water Safety
Only drink bottled or boiled water. Do not drink tap water, even in hotels. Use bottled water for brushing teeth. Hot water is commonly served at restaurants — this is normal and safe.
🛂 Carry Your Passport
Bring your passport everywhere. It's needed to enter attractions (where locals use ID cards), and sometimes for subway security checks. Taking a photo of your passport on your phone is not always accepted.
🚻 Bathroom Essentials
- • Pocket tissues: Public restrooms rarely have toilet paper
- • Hand sanitizer / paper soap: Soap is rarely provided
- • Shopping centers: Usually have western-style toilets with supplies
- • Remote areas: Expect squat toilets with no TP or soap
